Ordered Sending

Updated on

This feature enables clients to prioritize recipients by defining a table or demographics field to sort the audience.

Ordered Sending cannot be used in conjunction with Subject Line testing and Retargeting.

Please contact your Account Manager or iPost Support to enable this feature in your account.

Enable Ordered Sending for a Mailing

  1. Proceed to the Send Configuration step in your email automation and fill out the fields under Email Send Configuration and Audience Selection, as usual.
  2. Under Advanced Options, enable Ordered Sending; this creates a third tab in the configuration modal.
  3. Click Next to continue.

Define the field, order, and duration

Using the dropdown menus, assign values for each of the following items:

  1. Audience
    • All Contacts: sort using a demographics (All Contacts) field; primarily used for when the sending audience is a list.
    • Sendable Date Table: sort using a field in the sendable data table configured for the audience of this mailing.
  2. Field for Ordering
    • For mailings with an All Contacts (list-based) audience: choose the field from your demographics that will determine how your audience is sorted.
    • For mailings with a Sendable Data Table audience: select the attribute in the table that will determine how your audience is sorted.
  3. Sort Order
    • Ascending: A to Z; smallest to largest
    • Descending: Z to A; largest to smallest
  4. Send Duration
    • How long the mailing should send, from start to finish (up to 72 hours)

Sending Distribution

Constant Delivery Rate throughout the entire Ordered Send

This sends small, ordered batches of equal size through the send's duration.

Distribute Delivery by Batch across Send Duration

This requires that you define how many batches the audience should be split into (up to 10).

For each batch, contacts will be mailed to as quickly as possible at the start of their given batch, based on the Send Duration.

For example, a mailing configured into four batches with a send duration of 24 hours would use the following send schedule:

  • Batch 1 - at launch time (beginning of hour 0)
  • Batch 2 - beginning of hour 6
  • Batch 3 - beginning of hour 12
  • Batch 4 - beginning of hour 18

Send Contacts whose Sort Order Field value is either blank or null

Define where these contacts should be sorted within the send.

  • Beginning of the send
  • End of the send
